Investment in Innovative 'Dynamic Breathing Building' Company
Marubeni Europe plc has made a significant minority investment in Environmental Building Partnership Limited (EBP), an early stage technology company that has patented designs for an innovative energy efficient and carbon friendly dynamic insulation product. Marubeni Europe plc has invested alongside Sigma Sustainable Energies Fund, Life IC Limited and Scottish Enterprise’s Scottish Seed Fund.
EBP was spun out from the University of Aberdeen in 2004. The company has developed a Dynamic Breathing Building system which reduces the energy needed for both heating and cooling. The company’s initial product, the EnergyfloTM cell, is the world’s first dynamic insulation and filtration product, and is a direct replacement for conventional insulation products in the building envelope. End-users will benefit from lower energy costs and low carbon footprint buildings. EBP has received significant interest in the Dynamic Breathing Building to date and has successfully achieved its first commercial orders.
Graeme Francis, Chief Operating Officer of Marubeni Europe plc’s Investment and Development Group, said:
"We are delighted to be investing in EBP alongside Sigma Sustainable Energies Fund, Life-IC Limited and Scottish Enterprise’s Scottish Seed Fund. We believe that EBP’s product is a highly exciting disruptive technology with multiple applications for the construction industry. By delivering lower carbon emissions with cleaner air and a reduction in space heating and cooling energy requirements, the EBP technology is well placed to become a key component in the development of zero carbon homes. EBP’s technology is transferable to many international markets.
Under the new joint venture, MTU and Marubeni will consolidate respective resources to meet the needs of these businesses for enhanced service and growth.
One of the aims of MTU-Marubeni is to elevate customer satisfaction by providing high quality products and service based on the existing service network established by MTU in Japan. By doing so, the joint venture looks to achieve above-average growth in all the relevant off-high way markets.
Our investment in EBP further demonstrates the support and commitment of Marubeni to investment and development within the low carbon and clean energy sector."
Paul Smith, Chief Executive Officer, of EBP said:
"We are particularly pleased to have Marubeni as one of our major investors. We are confident that their focus on the low carbon and clean energy sectors, their commitment to long term strategic relationships, and their global reach, will help to accelerate our growth and cement our position at the forefront of the emerging market for innovative carbon reduction technologies in the built environment."
